A Look Inside The Futuristic Villa Designed by Jean Nouvel

This contemporary French Riviera villa strikes an impressive balance between minimal, futuristic architecture and integration with its lush surrounding Mediterranean landscape.  Villa Grand Cap was designed by world-renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, known for the 53 West 53 residential tower in New York City and the Louvre Abu Dhabi. According to listing agent Alasdair Hedley, “Jean Nouvel designs buildings to create a visual landscape befitting their context, and here he triumphs.” Completed in 2021 after a six-year build, the concrete, steel and glass home is nestled into the hillside overlooking the Bay of Villefranche, with fully glazed walls and windows taking in stunning bay views and allowing for seamless integration between indoor and outdoor areas.  All of the art and furniture is uniquely curated for this property, according to Mr. Hedley. “This house is modern perfection, where art, nature, design and functionality are transported to new levels. Anyone who sees the house will experience its incredible flow,” he said.

The 6,404-square-foot property has six bedrooms and five bathrooms, including a detached one-bedroom guest home. It has four internal levels, an additional outdoor level, and sits upon an acre lot. Every room of the house has access to a private deck or garden, with the top level dedicated to landscaped gardens by landscape architect Atelier Francois Navarro. The main stairway ascends from the kitchen and dining area to the fourth floor, another airy, open living room with a variety of seating areas, a pop-up TV screen, a Juliette balcony, and access onto an intimate outdoor space with a deck and garden, shaded by mature trees. The gardens full of mature trees include olive and banana trees, as well as edible herbs, fruit and vegetables, all of which are uniquely labeled. An infinity pool features a motorized solar cover that helps heat it. In addition to outdoor parking, the lower level is dedicated to a four-car motor court, which opens onto a hallway with sequenced lighting that leads to an elevator serving all levels of the house. “Villa Grand Cap is sophisticated and full of the ‘wow’ factor, especially for any car enthusiast, as the garage is integrated as a room,” Mr. Hedley said. “You literally drive into the home.”

Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is located on a peninsula in the Alpes-Maritimes department of the French Riviera. One of the most sought-after locations in the world, in 2012, Cap Ferrat was named the second most expensive residential location in the world after Monaco, according to Mr. Hedley.  The area is full of luxury homes nestled among lush vegetation, with stunning bay views. Popular with yachting enthusiasts, Cap Ferrat has a marina, as well as several beautiful beaches and walking trails.  With plenty of fine dining and boutique shopping on offer, the area is also historically rich, and features a range of interesting museums, including the palace and gardens of Villa Ephrussi, Villa Santo Sospir, and the Seashell Museum, which is unique in Europe and holds the largest collection in the Mediterranean. Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat lies less than half an hour’s drive to the city of Nice and its international airport.
