Technology Month | June Real Estate Minute | Ivan Estrada Properties

Hello and welcome to the Real Estate Minute. I’m your host Ivan Estrada with Douglas Elliman. This month it’s all about technology. A home automation system that goes by the name of Josh, a window that turns into a balcony, and a home that’s made out of cardboard. So the Real Estate minute is going to work this way. There are three segments, one minute each, three minutes total. Let the Real Estate Minute begin.

Siri, meet Josh. So who’s Josh? Well Josh is a voice activated home automation system that will be able to turn your home into the smartest home in the neighborhood. So just like how Siri controls your iPhone and helps you find directions or plan reservations or plan out your day. Josh will be doing the exact same thing for your home and so much more. Josh will be able to help you control anything that’s automated: your shades, your lights, your alarm system, your sound system, your thermostat, pretty much anything that’s automated your home. Josh will be able to control. Now they’re only going to be selling about 100 of these in the summer 2016 because they want to provide the best quality service. Installation is super easy. All you need is Wi-Fi and an outlet to turn your home into the smartest home in the neighborhood.

So what if I told you that I could turn your normal window into a balcony in only a couple seconds. Well a company out of Amsterdam has done just this. It’s called the Bloomframe. This amazing Bloomframe could be installed in any building in only a matter of days. So what is the functionality of this? So a lot of warehouses are now turning into residential and a lot of old apartment buildings that are being turned into condos. It’s a lot easier and cheaper to add a balcony this way and just a lot cooler. Now the company Bloomframe has won tons of awards all over Europe and now they’re making their way to the United States. It will be interesting to see how they will integrate this technology to turn some of the older buildings in New York City, Miami and right here in downtown Los Angeles.

Wikkel House is a special little house made out of cardboard. Sounds like the first sentence of a fairy tale, right? Well it’s actual reality. A company out of Amsterdam has created a house that’s a hundred percent recycled. So if you want to go eco-friendly, this is the house for you. Now, the house is made out of cardboard, 24 layers to be exact. And it’s all put together with special eco-friendly super glue. Now the Wikkel House can be built with any type of feature you want. A kitchen, one bathroom, or maybe two bathrooms. These houses are constructed in Amsterdam and then shipped to you. They take about a day to put together and they weigh about 500 kilos. So they have no foundation. Now, this Wikkel House comes with a lifetime warranty of 100 years. They’re very light so you can have it as a vacation home and travel with it or have it as a back house or an entertainment place in your existing home. I mean, you can do anything with this beautiful Wikkel House.
